AN EXPEDITION BY

ALAN G0RCI, COLIN G1JME.

TO THE WESTERN ISLES OF SCOTLAND.

This was the first of the expeditions organised by myself,

little was I to know then of the places we would eventually end up visiting !

Traveling North from Grantham on the A1 we worked the WAB net as far the Scottish border using twin dipoles on the roof of the caravanette.Leaving Gretna Green we switched to the 7element ZL special fixed to the rear of the vehicle, this was turned by a geared down electric window motor. From the time we arrived on the first of 22 islands (Arran), we had to start using the 14 element long yagi. Also on board a 5 element for 50MHz.The trip took us from the Western Isles out to the Outer Hebrides (Harris ands Lewis) before we caught the ferry back to Ullapool, for the 600 odd mile drive home.
